Today was an epic exploration of St Kitts. The famous “Percy’s Taxi Service” took us on a tour, giving us the history of the island as we worked our way past abandoned sugar plantations and estates, past the original meeting place of Christopher Columbus and the Carib natives, to some beautiful gardens in an old estate.
From there, we went on to Brimstone hill, and the fortress that lies on top of it that was created by the British to protect their assets. The crew aboard Full Deck got to practice their throat singing in the acoustical armory, and Zach and Titus did their best to take as many hilarious pictures using canons as a prop as they could.
We then headed back to boats for a quick lunch, before making our way to a black sandy beach (The beaches are black here from the volcanic soil) for a cleanup session and a little bit of swimming. Sandy and hungry, we came back to boats for a cookout on the docks: Cheeseburgers, pickles, hotdogs, chips, juice (Tang), grilled pineapple, corn, and then Holly baked a batch of brownies for dessert. Needless to say, it was an excellent evening, and we were joined by the assistant dockmaster (Charlie), and Percy for a relaxing evening. We ended the evening with a presentation by The DREAD PIRATE ERIC VON ASCHWEGE, who presented CHALLENGE DAY. Tomorrow, students will take full command of their boats throughout dedocking, before sailing to Nevis!
