Day 9 Trip Update, Echo 1
Day 9 began with the midnight watch of our Night Sail from the Bitter End Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda to Oyster Pond, St. Martin. As the watches rolled through the wee morning hours, groggy students arose out of their bunks to take a three-hour shift steering the boat and periodically plotting out location on the chart to monitor our progress. Many cookies were eaten, riddles were told, and a three hour Celebrity Name Game commenced. We watched the sunrise over the ocean-filled horizon and by 10 am heard “Land ho!” when St. Martin was first sighted. Once we arrived on the docks, we took a little time settling in, and then strolled to the top of the hill overlooking Oyster Pond to watch the sunset over our resting spot for the evening. Thoughts filled our heads of the adventures to be had on St. Martin tomorrow.
