Charlie 2 Trip Update Day 19 – Luke, Mate
Today was a pretty awesome day, with both Venture and Buoyant Asset performing a snorkel reef scrub in the morning at 7:00 a.m. after a 6:00 a.m. wake up. After cleaning up some underwater information boards the crews jib sailed to the Baths and got their SCUBA gear ready for the last dive of the program. The divers went to Ginger Steps, which was their deep dive with a max depth of 100 feet. The Sail Caribbean Divers dive instructors also speared 3 lion fish on the deep dive (lionfish are an invasive species that are detrimental to Caribbean reef ecosystems), and everyone enjoyed the dive and getting to see a baby black tip reef shark.
After the dive everyone returned to the Baths area but went straight to a cook out of delicious burgers and hot dogs, along with some watermelon. Then it was time for the crews to explore the Baths and enjoy a hikel (hike/snorkel) from Devils Bay to the Baths. After the hikel the crews climbed up Jump Rock and leapt off it 15 feet into the water. It was a great way to spend our last full afternoon on the water!
While we were eating dinner a little while later some rain blew in; some students went below to finish eating, while others weathered out the squall in the cockpit, taking advantage of the refreshing shower as it rinsed the boats. After the clouds passed the crews readied their boats for their night sail to Marina Cay. When we arrived at the mooring field, it was fairly windy, but both boats did a great job getting us secure on a mooring ball so everyone could get some much-deserved rest.
