Tango Day 12 Trip Update – Frazer, Program Director
This morning we got to sleep in a little bit before we had to get up and get moving. We all appreciated the extra time since we had a long sail ahead of us and a big day with YEP (the Youth Empowerment Project).
We ate breakfast and then completed the departure checklist so we could get off the ball and leave Anegada. No one wanted to leave, but all were happy to be seeing our YEP friends again! Once we were off the ball and leaving the channel we got a right of way lesson from Marwan, and we followed that up with a bowline tying contest.
Today we covered about 22 nautical miles going from Anegada back to Hodges Creek Marina under full sail with our motors turned off. The trip took us a while but we were on docks by one o’clock and hanging out with YEP kids by two o’clock. Lily gave a great Marine Biology lesson on how all the islands in the BVI were formed. After our Marine Biology lesson we had a snack and then got into the truck to head over to the YEP center for some basketball. It started out as an organized game and turned into just shooting hoops and hanging out.
We were all exhausted after so much running around and being in the sun. So, once back on docks we started showering and dinner prep for spaghetti and meatballs. Meanwhile, Henry and Dylan worked hard on their diving homework for their upcoming dive. At dinner we had our friend Dan from Land Staff come and join us for good company on the boat.
Once dinner cleanup and boat meeting were over we started getting ready for bed. And once all teeth were brushed we turned the lights off for a nice power down.
