Trip Update Delta 2, Day 12, Eric von Aschwege
The Delta 2 fleet had a relaxed morning on docks as we collected our gear for a long day at the beach. Percy picked us up at 9:30 and drove us to Cockleshell Beach, a small protected bay on the south side of St. Kitts. We drove down the winding island road over several hill tops and along several white beaches before we arrived at 10 to a beautiful beach facing towards Nevis. We picked a quiet area under some palm trees and swam in the water while the people driving the ski-boat prepped their equipment. Finally everything was ready and the first four campers hopped on the “bandwagon” tube. The speedboat took off and gave everyone the ride of their lives on the tube, taking turns tightly which swung the tube around fast! Everyone took turns on the bandwagon, and several people went water skiing as well. Some of the campers made waterskiing look easy, while others tried it for their first time. After all of the campers had gone on the tube, some of the staff took a turn on it. The driver of the boat spared no one as he took turns that made us struggle to stay on – we ultimately went flying and flipped the tube, much to the driver’s delight!
After tubing, we continued to swim around the beach and enjoyed relaxing in the shade of palm trees with a fresh Atlantic breeze on our faces. We came back to the boats around 3:30, showered, and began prepping the boats for our night sail. This evening we will dedock the boats, anchor in the bay, and then wait for darkness. Around 9:30 we will pull up the anchor and set sail north towards St. Barths. The weather is beautiful with a perfect 15-18 knot breeze and clear skies – we will pull the bimini back so that we can enjoy the stars tonight. We’ll sail through the night and arrive at St. Barths around 6am, where we’ll anchor and then sleep for part of the morning. More to come about the night sail from St. Barths tomorrow!
