Alpha 2 Trip Update Day 8 – Elise, Program Director
Today we woke up at Great Harbor on Jost Van Dyke to a blustery morning in the BVI’s. The Alpha crew headed over to Sandy Cay for a morning on the most pristine beach in all of the islands. Melissa was the skipper of the day on Persephone and picked up a mooring ball seamlessly in the blustery weather. It was very impressive. After floating in the turquoise blue water and walking down the white sand beach, the Alpha crew went on a little island exploration. The hike on the little deserted island went up around the backside of the island and overlooked a rocky area with waves crashing up again them. It was lovely and the crew spent some time taking pictures with each other. After going up and down a little rocky path, the crew happened upon an opening with one large, beautiful tree with roots branching out all around it. We stopped here for a lunch and enjoyed the beauty of our surroundings. The rest of the day was full of tubing in the Diamond Cay. Then the crew prepped the infamous Sail Caribbean Chili Cook-off, where each boat is judged for taste, presentation, and theme of their Chili dinner. Hunter came up with a fantastic theme, Cirque de Persephone, and Melissa and Sydney headed up cooking some tasty chili. On Isle of Skye, Franck was the leader of the show after dinner and showed off his bull-fighter skills. Overall it was another fun, eventful day for the Alpha crew. Everyone is eagerly anticipating challenge day tomorrow where the crew takes over the boat entirely!
