Foxtrot 2 Trip Update Day 2 – Emma, Program Director
The building excitement from yesterday was still evident in the crew this morning. They were awake early and ready to get started on their day! The first thing on the agenda was to head to the Sail Caribbean Divers’ shop to meet with the dive staff and finish paperwork for the SCUBA courses. Once this was done, the crews of Da Vinci and Van Gogh were given an orientation of their boats in preparation for leaving docks. The skippers of the day (Connor and Stewart) met with the captains to talk about how to steer their vessels away from the docks, assigning different positions to everyone on decks. Finally, time to sail! The de-dockings were extremely smooth, with boats heading into Sir Francis Drake Channel for the first time.
On the way out to Norman Island the crews were given lessons on raising the sails and how to pick up a mooring ball, then had time to enjoy their first Caribbean sail. Upon entering The Bight on Norman Island they picked up a mooring ball and the divers headed ashore to begin their Open Water course. The students who were not diving headed to the caves for a sweet snorkel with their captains. When everyone returned, the crews were treated to a fun shower demo and took their first “boat shower”.
Dinner tonight was delicious. Both boats enjoyed burritos before coming together for a boat meeting. Here they continued to get to know each other and learn more about what to expect from Foxtrot. All the crew were in bed for an early night after a long day.
