Foxtrot 1 Trip Update Day 10 – Shandy, mate

Happy Birthday Jess and Nathan! All crew were woken this morning with the promise of cinnamon rolls, sailing, diving, and an evening celebratory Birthday Barbeque. The morning sail from the Bitter End Yacht Club was gorgeous, with light trade winds pushing the boats down wind through the islands. The fleet moored at Trellis Harbor, where turtles were everywhere! Shandy and Erica decided the turtles were asking to be tagged, so they jumped in on a turtle tagging mission. No turtles were caught, but more turtle tagging adventures were planned for tomorrow.  In the afternoon, the Open Water divers went on a fun dive, where they saw beautiful rock canyons covered in coral and brightly colored fish.  The non-divers joined the staff on more turtle tagging snorkels, and attempted speed snorkeling behind the dinghy.

Today was a special day: two birthdays in the fleet!  A celebratory barbeque was held aboard Da Vinci, with fresh fish, hamburgers, hotdogs, and veggie burgers on the menu. Alyssa changed everyone’s lives by serving asphalt brownies (brownies scrambled in a pan—so good!), and Alex taught us a new game.

The special barbeque was topped off by a visit from Captain Challenge and her Mate, and the crew were informed that tomorrow is Challenge Day!   Both boats will be sailed by their crew from Trellis Bay to Cooper Island, with no input from the staff (unless safety is compromised!). Captain Challenge and her Mate made a dramatic entrance from the sail cover, and exited stage right over the Starboard bow. All crew are anticipating an exciting day tomorrow!

Special note to parents:  We’re having a blast out here!  On Sunday, July 1st, we will be fitting in as many fun morning activities as possible, meaning that we will be ready to phone and Skype home at around 1:30 p.m.  We can’t wait to share our Challenge Day successes with you then!
