Foxtrot 1 Trip Update Day 4 – Shandy Buckley, Mate

Today was a day of adventure and movement. The divers went on their first open water dives at Pelican Island’s Rainbow Canyon and Angelfish Reef. The highlight was seeing a turtle, a nurse shark, and many of the fish covered in last night’s lesson. Those who did not dive boated over for a snorkel at the The Indians.  There, they got to see amazing corals (while avoiding the mustard-colored fire coral, of course!) and Gareth and Eliot were able to swim through a short underwater cave.  Both groups returned to their boats for lunch together before dropping the mooring ball and sailing away from Norman Island.  The crew of Geneve was eager for their first sail with the engines off, moving by wind power only. Both boats were excited to anchor for the first time.  The students took positions of helmsman, spotter, windlass operator, relay, and dinghy tender for the anchoring maneuver, and were able to successfully tuck in to the crystal clear water of Little Harbor on Norman Island.  Tomorrow promises more new experiences and water time for all!
