Foxtrot 1 Trip Update Day 2 – Shandy Buckley, Mate

Today was the longest day of the year, and what a better place to be than the British Virgin Islands.  The crew woke aboard their boats with feelings of anticipation. It proved to be a day of two swim tests, sailing, and learning how to live aboard. After a diver swim test and hogi sandwich lunch we set off for the Bight on Norman Island. Upon arrival we swam around the boat for a second swim test and commenced our first ocean shower. In order to conserve water, showering is done off the back of the boat, with rinses in the crystal clear water followed by a 10 second fresh water rinse and air drying on the foredeck.  Taking a dip in the ocean after a day at docks was definitely a highlight, as was raising our mainsail and jib, turning off the engine, and sailing for the first time. All crew have headed to bed, exhausted from an exciting day of new experiences and getting into the groove of sailing life. Happy Summer Solstice to all!
